Domestic Violence Education in schools
WHAT: The Women Business Owners (WBO) of Prince George’s County is partnering with Break the Cycle to build healthy relationships and a healthier community by bringing preventive dating violence education to every public high school in Prince George’s County.
At their annual business and wellness conference, members of the WBO of Prince George’s County will kick off efforts to raise money to support the distribution of Break the Cycle’s DV101 to high schools throughout the county—ensuring teens in PG County have the information and tools they need to live free from violence. The schools will receive a complete package containing Break the Cycle’s user-friendly, evidence-based curriculum along with a letter detailing how members of their very own community are responsible for them receiving the program free-of-charge.
WHY: FACT: One in three teens will experience abuse in a dating relationship.
FACT: Women ages 16-24 are the group most likely to experience abuse
FACT: Young victims exhibit significantly higher rates of drug abuse and truancy.
